Medical Evaluations
OccMedCIC can complete formal medical evaluations requested by work, school or insurance.
We work with a number of TPAs (Third Party Administrators) who schedule various evaluations with us, including active military personnel, merchant mariners, and professional divers.
Preplacement/Post Offer Evaluations
Our evaluating providers here at OccMedCIC, with key input from our support staff, thoroughly screen pre-placement candidates to assure that he or she is physically able to perform the essential functions of their job. Our providers communicate the need for job task or workplace accommodations based on information gathered in the post-offer evaluation. Candidates and employers can be assured that confidential medical information is not shared with the employer.
We help address any medical issues that may impact the person’s productivity and general well-being and set them up for long-term success in the workplace.
Fitness for Duty
OccMedCIC has experienced providers to evaluate an employee’s ability to fulfill the job description. Evaluations and subsequent communications are conducted consistent with ADAct and EEOC guidance. Employees with complex situations can consult with Dr. Burress to help identify best next steps.
Dr. Burress has a wealth of experience assisting municipalities, transportation industry (aviation, maritime, road, and rail), as well as utility companies. Dr. Burress is often called upon to interact with HR representatives and/or labor attorneys to assist in complex cases.
Independent Medical Examinations (IMEs)
Dr. John Burress, Principal of OccMedCIC, performs IMEs in Massachusetts and New Hampshire. His practice is balanced, welcoming selected cases from both plaintiff and defense attorneys as well as directly from employers, carriers, and government agencies.
Dr. Burress believes the credibility of a report should stem from clearly communicated basis of opinions. His CV conveys academic credentials and extensive disability management experience but it is his reputation as a treating clinician that carries the most weight.
Return to Work Exams
Your employee’s ability to safely fulfill their job description is vital. We can complete a full exam of the employee, review the job description, and update the employee’s work status as medically fit.
FMLA Evaluations and Second Opinions
The FMLAct includes language that is favorable to the employee. The treating provider typically completes a form as requested by the employee. The employer has little recourse other that the ability to request a second opinion. Dr. Burress has performed a myriad of these during his 10 years with Boston Medical Center as Medical Director of their Department of Occupational Health. Dr. Burress has extensive experience working with labor attorneys. He is residency trained in Family Medicine and he can relate well to primary care clinicians when asked to speak with the treating provider to clarify aspects, especially when intermittent FMLA is being requested.
Disability Evaluations
We offer evaluations that can change an employee’s work status based on our medical findings. We are prepared to support multiple types of companies and evaluations based on job descriptions and place of work.
Blood Borne Pathogen or Other Potentially Infectious Material (OPIM) Exposure
When a worker experiences exposure to a blood-borne pathogen, we complete medical evaluations to test and examine for actual exposure to Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, HIV or OPIM.
